A current transformer model refers to a specific design and configuration of a current transformer (CT) used for measuring, monitoring, and protecting electrical systems. Current transformers are essential components in power distribution networks, industrial automation, renewable energy systems, and electrical metering equipment. Their main function is to convert high alternating current into a smaller and standardized current value, typically 1A or 5A, which can be safely measured by instruments and protection relays.

There are several common current transformer models available in the electrical industry. Each model is designed for different installation conditions, current ranges, and applications. The most widely used models include wound type, bar type, window type, toroidal type, and split core current transformers.

The wound type current transformer contains both primary and secondary windings. It provides high accuracy and is commonly used in low and medium current measurement systems. This model is suitable for laboratory equipment, precision metering devices, and industrial control panels. Because the primary winding is physically connected within the transformer, the wound type model offers excellent performance in applications requiring accurate current ratio measurement.

The bar type current transformer uses a solid conductor bar as the primary winding. It is designed for high current applications and is frequently installed in switchgear systems, substations, and power distribution cabinets. This model has a simple structure, strong mechanical strength, and high thermal performance, making it suitable for heavy industrial environments.

Window type or toroidal current transformers are among the most common CT models in modern electrical systems. They feature a hollow center through which the primary conductor passes. These models are easy to install and are widely used in power monitoring devices, energy meters, and leakage current detection systems. Since there is no built in primary winding, the installation process becomes faster and more flexible.

Split core current transformer models are specially designed for convenient installation without disconnecting existing wiring. The core can open and clamp around the conductor, making this model ideal for retrofit projects, smart energy management systems, and temporary monitoring equipment. Split core CTs are widely used in commercial buildings, solar energy systems, and industrial maintenance applications.

Different current transformer models also vary according to accuracy class, insulation level, frequency range, and output signal type. Standard output ratings are usually 1A or 5A for measurement systems, while some modern electronic models provide voltage or digital signal outputs for intelligent monitoring systems. Choosing the correct current transformer model depends on factors such as rated primary current, system voltage, installation method, burden resistance, and environmental conditions.

Today, current transformer models are widely applied in power substations, renewable energy systems, motor control centers, smart grids, electric vehicle charging stations, and industrial automation equipment. Their ability to provide safe isolation, accurate measurement, and reliable protection makes them indispensable in modern electrical engineering. With the development of intelligent power systems, advanced current transformer models continue to improve in accuracy, compact size, and digital communication capability.
