Transformer Core Ground Sensor(Split-core Lock Catch Type)

Transformer core ground sensor(split-core lock catch type) specifically designed for core and clamp grounding current monitoring devices, this sensor enables online, continuous monitoring of grounding fault currents (range: 100 μA to 700 mA). It provides real-time feedback on equipment insulation status, promptly detecting issues such as multiple grounding points in the core, insulation moisture/damage, and foreign objects in the housing, thereby providing a basis for condition-based maintenance. The sensor employs a high initial magnetic permeability core, deep negative feedback, and multi-layer shielding technology to achieve fully automatic compensation, ensuring the core operates in an ideal zero flux state. It features high precision (phase error ≤ 0.01°), minimal temperature drift, and strong interference resistance, fully meeting the precise measurement requirements in the complex environments of power plants.

Product Overview


Reliable grounding of the transformer core is critical. During operation, the alternating magnetic field around the windings couples through parasitic capacitance, causing the core to develop a floating potential. If the core is not grounded, potential differences may arise between metal components due to varying distances, potentially leading to insulation breakdown and spark discharge, which can damage oil and solid insulation. Therefore, the core must be grounded at a single point to eliminate the floating potential.


However, if the core is grounded at two or more points, a closed loop is formed, generating circulating currents. These circulating currents cause localized overheating, leading to transformer oil decomposition, reduced insulation performance, and in severe cases, burning of the core's silicon steel sheets, resulting in major accidents.


Therefore, the core must be reliably grounded at a single point to avoid floating voltage or multi-point grounding overheating faults, ensuring the safety of the transformer and power grid. Monitoring the core grounding current is an effective means of promptly detecting such faults and preventing accidents.
